Volunteers Spruce Up Local Park, Intersection

Area residents lend a hand in beautifying a park in Chatsworth and a street corner in Northridge over the weekend.

Chatsworth Park North and an intersection in Northridge Village got a touch-up Saturday when volunteers pitched in with picking up litter, removing graffiti and other cleanup activities.

Over at Reseda Boulevard and Rayen Street, nearly 35 people swept away trash from the sidewalk and gutters and tore away weeds.

"It's making a big impact on the boulevard and changing the face of how it looks and it's just bringing more business to the neighboorhood," said Northridge resident Patricia Freman Lopez.

Neighbors get together a few times each year to tidy up the area, but this time, it's in preparation for the annual Northridge Village Art Show taking place on May 18.

Across the community's border, dozens of volunteers spruced up parts of Chatsworth Park North that were riddled with litter and graffiti.

L.A. City Councilman Mitch Englander helped organize the event. Most of the volunteers were from the Mormon Church and lending a hand in honor of Helping Hands Day.
