Woman Shot After Leading Police On Chase Through SFV: LAPD

A woman was shot after leading police on a chase through the San Fernando Valley on Monday, police said.

LOS ANGELES, CA — A woman who led police on a chase through the San Fernando Valley was shot by officers after a standoff Monday morning, accord go authorities.

The pursuit began at around 7:45 a.m. Monday at Norm's restaurant on Sherman Way near Woodman Avenue in Van Nuys, where officers were responding to report of a woman with a gun, Fox 11 reported.

“A passerby saw the van had bullet holes in the windshield, so they called and said they were concerned that there had been a shooting,” LAPD Detective Meghan Aguilar told KTLA. “Officers arrived and they met with a female outside of the van … she produced a handgun, pointed it at herself and got back in the van.”

The woman led police on a slow-speed chase that ended about 25 minutes alter at a cul-de-sac off Mulholland Drive in Woodland Hills. The woman, along with a dog, were barricaded inside the van, police said. "SWAT resources were requested and responded to the scene. Around 9:15 a.m., while the suspect was outside of the vehicle, an officer-involved shooting occurred," the LAPD posted on X.

Police did not immediately release further information, but ABC7 reported that the woman got out of the van and jumped on the vehicle's roof while holding a gun to her head, then jumped off and ran onto the porch of a nearby home prior to the shooting.

Paramedics dispatched to 20935 W. Arcana Road at 8:13 a.m. Monday rushed a 42-year-old woman to a hospital in serious condition, said Lyndsey Lantz of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

"By 10:15 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody. She was transported by the Los Angeles Fire Department to a local hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment. The investigation is ongoing," police said.
