1 Driver Arrested At Marin County DUI Checkpoint
Police said more than 1,600 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

NOVATO, CA -- One driver was arrested and another 21 drivers were cited during a DUI checkpoint in Marin County. The checkpoint, which took place on De Long Avenue and Redwood Boulevard, also nabbed a Petaluma resident wanted on an outstanding warrant, police said.
Police said more than 1,600 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

Checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for officers as well as the public. DUI/Driver’s License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries, police said.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, checkpoints have provided the most effective documented results of any of the DUI enforcement strategies, while also yielding considerable cost savings of $6 for every $1 spent.
