Novato resident Adriane Lommel, a 20-year employee of the Marin County Office of Education, recently was named as the county's Classified Employee of the Year.
Lommel began as a temporary clerk and is now a senior administrative secretary, according to information provided by the county education office. She has worked in Education Services, General Services and Business Services — at times working out of class to cover duties normally performed by employees in a higher classification. Her work has included projects that would not normally be considered “secretarial.” She has worked with MCOE staff and school district staff in providing classrooms and/or moving classrooms for special education students. She has assisted with construction and renovation of educational spaces and participated in ordering furniture, technology equipment and curriculum materials.
Adriane is also a leader among classified employees at MCOE and is regarded as a resource and leader by the California School Employees Association at the county and state levels. After serving as President of CSEA Chapter #327 at MCOE for several years, she has assumed the role of job steward in which she has proven to be an effective advocate for classified employees as well as a fair-minded, ethical participant in working with management to assist employees to improve. She has been a vital part of creating an environment of mutual trust and respect. Most of all, her work has made a difference for children, families and staff of MCOE and in virtually every school district in Marin.
