Northbound 101 HOV Lane Opens Thursday in Novato

Caltrans will open a new northbound carpool lane in Novato in time for the homeward bound commute today.

The lane will extend from the Hwy 37 Interchange to Atherton Avenue. The northbound lane, along with the recently opened southbound carpool lane, will allow carpooling motorists to travel between the Highway 101 interchange to Hwy 37.

Commuters have been waiting for construction to be completed on this portion of the Marin Sonoma Narrows project which began one year ago.

The California Transportation Commission recently appropriated additional funding to extend the northbound carpool lane from Atherton Ave to 1.4 miles south of the Redwood Landfill Road, and to extend the southbound carpool lane from Novato Creek to the Franklin Railroad overcrossing.

Additional H.O.V. projects within the U.S.101 corridor in Marin and Sonoma County are slated through 2016 as additional funding becomes available.
