Novato Boys U12 Soccer Team Places 2nd in State

The Novato United U12 boys team concluded a remarkable season last weekend by finishing second in the Norcal State Championships.

This is the first time in history that has ha a team place this high in the standings.

The Novato U12 Boys, coached by Julies Ujeh, were ranked 15th going into the season due to a strong showing at the state championshiops last year.

During the winter, the broke into the Super Eight (top eight teams in Norcal) by winning their seeding bracket and defeating 3rd ranked Santa Clara Sporting.

The boys then advanced to the quarterfinals in mid-January, defeating the 2nd ranked team, America USA.

In the semi-finals they faced San Juan Lightening--defending state champions for the last three years.

In a truly epic game, Novato pulled out the win, 3-2 after a double-overtime and PK shoot-out. It was a euphoric moment for the players and their families after many years of hard work and sacrifice.

Novato was eventually beaten in the finals by Ballistic. Many Novato fans traveled to Woodland for the game and expressed great pride in the team for making it so far.  

The boys have a few weeks off and then get back to work as they begin their campaign for the 2013 Championships.
