Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise Presented 'Heroes Among Us Award'

The Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise — “The Little Club That Can” ‚ was honored July 3 with the receipt of a “Heroes Among Us” award presented to the club by Chief Marc Revere and Fire Marshal Bill Tyler.

The award was presented for the club’s work in providing free smoke alarm batteries and alarms to the residence of Novato’s mobile homes. This year a smoke alarm provided by the “Little Club That Can” saved the life of a woman whose hot-oil caught fire and set her kitchen into flames. The alarm alerted the woman, who was in another room and gave her the time needed to exit the mobile home.

Retired Novato Deputy Chief and Rotary member Mark Lille also attended the award ceremony. Lille established the smoke alarm project within the Sunrise Rotary Club. The club awarded him an Outstanding Contribution certificate for his dedicated work in establishing and coordinating the alarm program.

Chief Revere noted that it’s the little things we all do that wind up making significant differences in the lives of people. Thus, the smoke alarm project will continue this year and in future years.

The award came with certificates of praise for the efforts of the club signed by U.S. Representative Lynn Woolsey, State Assemblyman Jared Huffman and State Senator Mark Leno.

The Rotary Club of Novato Sunrise meets on Tuesday mornings at 7 a.m. at and welcomes visitors and anyone interested in the club.
