Patty Maher has been selected as the San Jose Middle School Volunteer of the Year for her contributions as a dedicated and caring parent volunteer both at Hill and San Jose middle schools.
Maher helped expand the SJMS Music Boosters by providing support at the performances and fundraisers. She secured parent chaperones for the three days of college tours at Sonoma State University. She has been at school auctions, the Book Fair and College Fridays.
Perhaps Maher's greatest contribution this year was her assistance in the PTA Tech-A-Need fundraiser. She worked with site and district staff to purchase the computers and coordinated the installation within a handful of weeks. A teacher who received a new computer (replacing her obsolete one, which took hours just to turn on) expressed it best when she said, "When I use my new computer now ... every day it is like Christmas."
