Carpool Mannequin Fails To Fool The CHP On US 101
A lively-looking passenger spotted in the carpool lanes near Novato last week turned out to be a well-disguised mannequin, the CHP said.

NOVATO, CA — One Bay Area driver's gambit to coast down the carpool lanes with a fake passenger on board was recently foiled by an attentive officer, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Missing the mark on subtlety, the driver got busted last Wednesday after the officer got a closer look at the figure riding in the backseat: He turned out to be a mannequin with some flair for fashion, sporting lively facial hair, a large hat, and an eye-catching shirt.
A spokesperson for the CHP told Patch the driver was taking the carpool lanes during the evening commute, heading northbound on US 101 in Novato. Despite being good for a few chuckles, the CHP said the driver was cited for a carpool violation, which carries a minimum fine of $490. Repeat offenders can expect to shell out even more.
