Driver Of Stolen Car Still Missing After Investigation In Marin County: Police

The driver ran from officers through a school's sports fields after the police attempted to pull the stolen car over.

NOVATO, CA — The police are asking the community for assistance after a driver ditched a stolen car in a school parking lot late Monday night in Novato and fled through the sports fields, evading officers, police said.

At around 11:30 p.m. on Monday, the California Highway Patrol located a Hyundai Tucson that had been stolen from Marin Valley Drive early Monday morning, police said.

CHP saw the car driving north on Highway 101 near the Nave Drive off-ramp and attempted to pull them over, police said.

The car exited Nave Drive and headed into the Hamilton School parking lot, police said. The driver was the only one in the car and once they reached the parking lot, they exited the car and fled on foot north across the sports fields at Hamilton School and headed towards Martin Drive.

The Novato Police Department issued a shelter in place alert at midnight for the area of Maingate Road and Martin Drive, police said.

CHP and NPD searched the area for the driver and called in a CHP helicopter to assist, police said.

Despite an extensive search, police said they were unable to locate the suspect.

Police are asking those who live in the area of Hamilton School and Martin Drive to check their surveillance cameras and to contact the NPD with any footage they may have of the suspect.

Police said the suspect is a male in his late teens or early 20s with a mustache and was wearing a black hoodie, white undershirt and white shoes.
