King James 400th Anniversary Reading at Dominican

A free literary celebration of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible, with readings and music, will be held at Guzman Hall, Dominican University, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3, with a reception to follow.

“This library-in-one-volume may be the greatest book of all time,” says host Robert F. Bradford, adjunct instructor in English and Social & Cultural Studies. “It has magnificent mythology, history, theology, sociology, prophecy, philosophy – and a cornucopia of stunning poetry that ranks with the best in the world.”

Rev. Betty Pagett will weave some context for the readings with a condensed “Bible 101: What’s In It and How It Got There.”

“Remember, the King James translation is from the finest era of the English language, the time of Shakespeare,” says Bradford. “It has also inspired some tremendous music.”

Readers will include poet Steve Galiani, actor Jessica Powell, writer Peter Burchard, Assistant Professor Neal Wolfe and student Valerie Nafius.
