NOVATO, CA — The Home Depot Foundation has donated $800,000 to two Bay Area organizations to help build housing for homeless veterans, including a $400,000 grant for Homeward Bound of Marin.

That money will go toward building two dozen new one-bedroom units at the former Hamilton Army Airfield, which will provide permanent supportive housing for veterans in need. Data from the National Low Income Housing Coalition identifies Marin County as one of the nation's most expensive rental markets, significantly limiting the availability of affordable options for veterans and their families who call it home.

Elsewhere in the Bay, The Home Depot Foundation announced an equal grant for Satellite Affordable Housing Associates, which will help fund the creation of 32 affordable housing units at the new Pinole Housing Facility. That project is designed to help veterans exit homelessness and get set up for the future with services like grocery delivery, health care, exercise, community gardening and social events.
