Marin Co. City To Hold Event For Those With Special Needs
The inaugural event aims to provide a fun environment for residents with special needs and their families to get to know police.
NOVATO, CA — The city of Novato later this month will hold an event for those with special needs and their families.
The inaugural Novato Special Needs Safety Event aims to provide a fun environment for residents with special needs and their families to get to know police.
The event will be held April 24 from 9 a.m. to noon at Pocket Park (950 Seventh Street).

The event is presented by the Novato Parks & Recreation and Novato Police departments. Admission is free.
This event was curated for those with physical or cognitive adaptive needs and will not include loud music, bright lights or overly stimulating sensory activities, city officials said in a statement.

Service animals welcome, but not other pets.
“This unique event brings forward an opportunity for our public safety team to meet and connect with members of our special needs community in a new way,” Lt. Sophia Winter said in a statement.
“We’re excited to get to know our special needs community better — in a fun and friendly setting.”
The event will feature activities specifically developed for those with adaptive needs.
“Our Parks & Recreation team is honored to be able to collaborate on an event created specifically for members of our community with adaptive needs, and their families, to enjoy,” Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation Katie Gauntlett said in a statement.
“It’s important for us to promote inclusive community participation with activities that offer opportunities for people of all abilities.”
