Novato City Council Names New Mayor And Mayor Pro Tem For 2026
The council's annual reorganization is a longstanding tradition in the city.
NOVATO, CA — During an emotional ceremony at City Hall, the Novato City Council unanimously appointed Rachel Farac as Mayor and Kevin Jacobs as Mayor Pro Tem for the coming year at the Dec. 16 meeting.
The two council members will succeed Tim O’Connor and Farac who was previously Mayor Pro Tem, respectively.
The council’s annual reorganization, a longstanding tradition, was attended by family, local officials, city staff, and community members, many of whom were acknowledged by name in celebratory remarks.

Farac, who has served on council and as Mayor Pro Tem, spoke about her commitment to thoughtful, community-centered leadership.
“Sitting here today as Mayor of Novato is one of the greatest honors of my life. This city isn’t just a place on a map, it’s home,” Farac said. “It’s a community that shows up for one another again and again.”

Farac also highlighted her ongoing goals.
“We’ve accomplished so much together already, and I’m excited for what’s ahead — more park renovations, a new strategic plan, and yes, continuing the eternal quest to make our roads better,” Farca said.
Additionally, she recognized the city’s culture of collaboration.
“To my fellow council members, thank you for being thoughtful collaborators, dedicated public servants and people who genuinely care about Novato,” Farac said. “You are what makes Novato such a special place to call home.”
The atmosphere was celebratory and personal. Farac even distributed gavels to children in attendance, involving them in the meeting’s final ceremonial adjournment.
