Novato DUI Checkpoint Nets 2 Arrests, 9 Citations

One suspected DUI driver was also arrested on suspicion of transporting controlled substances for sale, police said.

NOVATO, CA —Two people were arrested and nine others were cited at a Novato DUI checkpoint Friday, police said.

Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence and nine were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended or revoked license, the Novato Police Department said.

One suspected DUI driver was also arrested on suspicion of transporting controlled substances for sale, police said.

The checkpoint was held at South Novato Blvd at Sunset Parkway.

Officers contacted 339 motorists, of which 26 were directed to a secondary screening area, police said.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes, police said.

The stated goal of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off roads, police said.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
