Novato DUI Checkpoint Nets Unexpected Results
A DUI checkpoint stopped more than 1,400 vehicles Friday, netting more than two dozen citations not related to impairment.
NOVATO, CA — Novoto police set up a highway checkpoint to find motorists who might be driving under the influence Friday. They made two arrests.
But that result was eclipsed by 26 citations for unlicensed driving and four for driving on a suspended or revoked license, police said.
The DUI checkpoint at DeLong Avenue and Redwood Boulevard stopped 1,468 vehicles, with 83 drivers getting "secondary screening," police said Saturday.

Police said the primary purpose of DUI checkpoints is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.
