Novato Gets $119K Grant For Traffic Safety Programs

Annual grants awarded by the state help fund DUI checkpoints and other efforts to reduce serious injuries and deaths on Novato roads.

NOVATO, CA — The Novato Police Department has received more than $100,000 in state grant money to support traffic enforcement and education programs, officials announced Monday.

The grants are awarded annually by the California Office of Traffic Safety, tapping funds allotted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

According to the police department, the funds will support efforts to reduce serious injuries and deaths on Novato roads through next September. Officials said the grant will support DUI checkpoints and patrols, distracted driving enforcement campaigns, and other enforcement efforts designed to address dangerous behaviors behind the wheel.

"We are grateful to receive this grant, which will strengthen our traffic enforcement efforts and improve road safety," Novato Sgt. Pourfarhani said in a statement. "By increasing enforcement of traffic laws and focusing on high-risk areas, we aim to reduce dangerous driving behaviors, prevent crashes, and make our roads safer for everyone."
