Novato Structure Fire Kills 1

NOVATO, CA — A 39-year-old Novato man was killed in a residential structure fire Tuesday night, authorities said.

The man was identified as John Matthew Turley, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Coroner Division said Wednesday.

The cause of the blaze in the 1900 block of Center Road is under investigation.

Witnesses reported the blaze at around 9:10 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office said.

The Novato Fire Department responded to the blaze with assistance from other agencies.

First responders found the residence – a secondary unit located behind another home – fully engulfed in flames, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Paramedics tried to resuscitate Turley, but he was pronounced dead at the scene, the Sheriff’s Office said.

A second resident of the home escaped the building but suffered injuries that required hospitalization.
