Pile Burning Continues Around Novato
Firefighters wrapped up work in one area Monday, but smoke may be visible into Wednesday in a few Marin County communities.

NOVATO, CA — Marin County firefighters got started on another prescribed burn Monday as part of an effort to reduce fire fuels around Novato.
According to fire officials, pile burns took place in two areas Monday, working near Pacheco Hill along Marin Valley County Club and in the area where San Geronimo Ridge meets White Hill Fire Road.
Fire officials said the first burn would conclude Monday afternoon, while the San Geronimo Ridge burn was scheduled to last through Wednesday. Residents may still see or smell smoke around Fairfax, San Geronimo Valley and Ross Valley.

Fire officials asked residents in those communities to refrain from calling 911 to report smoke from the area of the prescribed burn. The latest efforts are part of the department's strategy to remove excess fire fuels across the county.
