Rotary Club of Ignacio Gives Out Service Above Self Awards to Novato Police and Fire

(Novato) The Rotary Club of Ignacio held its Second Annual “Service Above Self” Awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at the Marin Country Club in Novato. The annual Awards recognize one member each from the Novato Fire Protection District and the Novato Police Department Office who epitomizes “Service Above Self”, Rotary International’s motto. The recipients of the Service Above Self Awards were Jim MacDougall, Wildfire Mitigation Specialist, Novato Fire Protection District and Sergeant Sean Sinnott with the Novato Police Department. Both also received a certificate of appreciation from the Marin County Board of Supervisors from Supervisors Dennis Rodoni and Eric Lucan who could not attend the ceremony due to scheduling conflicts.

In addition to the recipients, the ceremony attendees included the Mayor Pro Tem of Novato, Rachel Farac; Novato Fire Protection District Chief Dan Peters, Wildfire Mitigation Supervisor Yvette Blount, and Kyle Nicholes; Chief Jim Naugle and Captain Jim Correa of the Novato Police Department; and Rotary District 5150 Governor, Steve Wright. Marin County

The Rotary Club of Ignacio has been providing meaningful community and international service for nearly 50 years. We provide a wide variety of service projects including annual scholarships for high school students; environmentally sustainable projects including planting trees, beautifying downtown Novato and creating a monarch butterfly habitat; providing a softball scoreboard for Novato South Little League at Dunphy Park; and providing turkeys, bottled water bag lunches for St. Vincent de Paul’s. Internationally we continue to provide water and sanitation facilities in South America; eyeglass clinics; hygiene kits; and Tutu desks (lap desks) for children in South Africa.
