As Giving Tuesday approaches, here are five nonprofits in the Oceanside area to consider supporting.
OCEANSIDE, CA — If you're like many of your Oceanside neighbors, you may spend a good part of the holiday season with your credit card in hand buying gifts for family and friends. Coming up soon is a chance to give back to the local community.
Giving Tuesday, which in 2024 falls on Dec. 3, is a day dedicated to supporting nonprofit and community groups. Since 2012, nonprofits worldwide have used the Tuesday after Thanksgiving to galvanize fundraising, rally volunteers and add momentum to their causes.
Maintaining funding is a constant challenge for many nonprofits that fill gaps and meet other needs in the Oceanside area.

Here are five local nonprofits to consider getting behind on Giving Tuesday:
Brother Benno's
Brother Benno's serves homeless neighbors, working poor and seniors in North County San Diego by providing meals, basic needs, community outreach and addiction recovery services.

Canine Companions
Canine Companions is leading the service dog industry so clients and their dogs can live with greater independence, according to the organization. The nonprofit provides service dogs to adults, children and veterans with disabilities and facility dogs to professionals working in healthcare, criminal justice and educational settings.
Casa de Amparo
Casa de Amparo aims to support those affected by and at risk of child abuse and neglect, through a range of programs and services that promote healing, growth, and healthy relationships. Established in 1978, Casa de Amparo is recognized as a major force in the treatment and prevention of child abuse and neglect in San Diego County, according to the organization.
Friends of the Oceanside Public Library
Friends of the Oceanside Public Library has raised more than $2 million since its founding in 1971 to help support the library's mission to engage, inform, connect and inspire, according to the organization. The organization supports the library's vision to serve as the cultural heart of Oceanside, promoting the joy of reading, fostering cultural arts, nurturing civic engagement and encouraging openness to new ideas.
Oceanside Community Foundation
Oceanside Community Foundation has partnered with San Diego Foundation to create and sustain a local foundation to serve Oceanside, according to the organization. The foundation's purpose is to meet emerging needs by increasing effective philanthropy for all who live, work and play in Oceanside; build a community endowment to annually fund local organizations and causes; and give community members a vehicle for legacy planning that will benefit Oceanside, now and forever.
