Vista Unified School District and Vista community leaders gathered on Tuesday, June 17th, at the site of the under-construction Bobier Elementary School to celebrate one year since the groundbreaking of a brand new facility. People gathered for a “beam-signing” celebration, adding signatures from school and community leaders to a support beam before it is hoisted into place as part of the structure.

While the beam will not be visible in the finished product, the ceremony symbolized the collaborative work that has fueled the design and construction of the new school.

The ceremony takes place nearly one year to the date of the groundbreaking ceremony, as work continues toward its completion date of August 2026, in time for the new school year.

Construction continues on the Bobier Elementary "Campus of the Future"

Campus of the Future
The school’s old campus was demolished in 2024, making room for a nationally award-winning new design, which will see Bobier reopen as an entirely new, state-of-the-art campus that will serve the broader Vista community. The new “Campus of the Future” is planned and on schedule to open in August 2026 at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Funded through the district’s Measure LL Facilities Bond, the new facility will offer over 84,000 square feet of space on nearly ten acres of the school site. In addition to new, modern classrooms and learning spaces, the school will see the installation of a combination Library/STEAM lab, a synthetic playfield, new parking lots, and solar panels with battery backup.

“I am so excited to have a brand new facility for our students, staff, and families. This new facility will set the bar for future improvements across the district,” says Vista Superintendent Dr. Matt Doyle.

Bobier students recently completed the first of two years attending classes at the site of the former Beaumont Elementary School, which is slated to be decommissioned as part of the district’s consolidation plan.

Completely New Campus & Facilities

As a full rebuild, the Bobier project is the largest of the district’s Measure LL Facilities Bond. The bond has funded improvement and modernization projects at more than a dozen of the district’s schools, including two new buildings at Vista High School, the new Career Technical Education (CTE) building at Rancho Buena Vista High School, ADA, and a brand new entrance and gathering spaces at Vista Magnet Middle School.

The projects are part of a broader commitment to upgrade and modernize the learning environments across the district. From updating critical infrastructure to building new buildings and learning spaces, the district is showcasing its vision and leadership.

“With 32 dedicated classrooms, over 84,000 square feet of internal space, and nearly 10,000 square feet of interior courtyard-covered space, the new Bobier Elementary School exemplifies why Vista Unified School District is nationally recognized for excellence and innovation in education,” says Dr. Shawn Loescher, Vista Assistant Superintendent. “This new learning environment sets our new standards for the types of spaces that our students, teachers, staff, and community deserve.”
