Cococabana Rooftop Cocktail Bar Opens In Downtown Oceanside

The much anticipated Caribbean-style cocktail bar with a small bites menu and stunning views opened atop The Brick Hotel to rave reviews.

OCEANSIDE, CA — After years of watching the renovations of The Brick Hotel, locals were delighted to recently celebrate the opening of the Cococabana Caribbean-style cocktail bar housed on the Brick’s 2,100-square-foot rooftop.

Just over a year ago the same view in the image above, looked like the image below.

Cococabana is one of two restaurants from Grind & Prosper Hospitality that will be located inside The Brick Hotel and is the first to open. The ground floor will be the home of the Q & A Restaurant and Oyster Bar, an intimate, New Orleans-style restaurant and oyster bar, named after executive chef Quinnton Austin.

The Patch dropped by on opening weekend to sample the cocktails and small bites menu at the Cococabana Rooftop Bar.

The libations included several specialty cocktails along with a selection of beer and wine. First up we tried the Crocket & Tubbs, a concoction of bourbon, apricot, coconut balsamic, banana agave, and bitters, along with the Swedish Bikini Team, which is a house rum blend with strawberry, cucumber, coconut and lemon. We rounded out the night with the Caribe Welcome. A blend of house rum, coconut water, apricot brandy, coconut cream, coconut water, fresh lime served in a carved coconut complete with an orchid decoration.

We had a difficult time choosing from all the delectable nibbles on the menu but our server Emily recommended a few options that she served with a warm and friendly smile.

Emily serving up a small plate of Chipotle BBQ Prawns.
They may call them "small plates" but there is nothing small about the size of the prawns or the boldness of the flavors. Even more incredible is that all the food is prepared in a micro-sized kitchen on a Josper charcoal grill.

The Wagyu Skewers were bursting with flavor as they melted in your mouth. The Jerk Butter Charbroiled Oysters were smoky and delicious. But, what really stood out was the Roasted Wild Mushrooms. While many people might overlook a mushroom dish on such an ambitious and appetizing menu, but the complexity and lusciousness of this dish cannot be overstated.

Featuring roasted mushrooms, jerk butter, egg yolk, avocado crema and served with grilled sourdough bread.
The food and drink at Cococabana are more than enough to entice any foodie, but as everyone knows it's the atmosphere that makes a locale worth returning to over and over again. Cococabana hits all the high notes you want when out for a memorable evening.

The views at Cococabana span all of downtown Oceanside and the Pacific Ocean making it a perfect spot for a romantic night out.

Or just hanging out with friends.

It's rare for a new place to exceed even the highest expectations but Cococabana did that and more. If you haven't had the pleasure of visiting Oceanside's newest gem, do yourself a favor and make reservations right away.
