Cool Zone Sites Open In Oceanside As Scorching Temperatures Rise Across San Diego County
Cool Zone sites include the county's 33 branch libraries, community centers and other locations across the San Diego region.
OCEANSIDE, CA — A dangerous heat wave is expected to scorch San Diego County this week, but residents can beat the heat through the county's Cool Zones program.
An excessive heat warning will be in effect from 11 a.m. Wednesday to 8 p.m. Friday for the deserts, mountains and valleys, according to the National Weather Service. A heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. Thursday to 8 p.m. Friday along the coast, including in Oceanside.
The county created the Cool Zones program two decades ago to provide free and safe air-conditioned spaces for older adults, people with disabilities and others with health concerns that could be complicated by the effects of extreme heat.
