I-5 Traffic Halts Near Camp Pendleton After Collision
The busy I-5 Freeway was shut down due to a collision, snarling traffic for miles on Monday.

OCEANSIDE, CA — A SIGAlert was initiated Monday morning on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton north of Oceanside after a crash on the northbound side of the roadway, officials said.
Shortly before 7:45 a.m., traffic along northbound I-5 about three and a half miles north of Harbor Drive stalled due to a collision, according to the California Highway Patrol. It was unclear how many vehicles were involved, but the northbound lanes were shut down.
Southbound lanes of the freeway were reopened around 8 a.m., along with the left two lanes of the northbound freeway. The remaining northbound lanes reopened just before 9:30 a.m.

As lanes reopened, the area was snarled for much of the morning, and it was unclear if anyone was injured in the crash. Reports that a helicopter was brought to the scene, possibly landing on the southbound lanes and forcing a closure of traffic in that direction.
