Pedestrian Killed In Suspected DUI Hit-And-Run In North County
Investigators used city surveillance cameras and license plate reader technology to identify the suspect, police said.
OCEANSIDE, CA — A man was killed in a suspected DUI hit-and-run collision in Oceanside, authorities said Friday.
Officers responded at 10:21 p.m. Thursday to a report of a pedestrian who was struck by a 2020 Ford Ranger on eastbound Oceanside Boulevard, just west of El Camino Real, according to the Oceanside Police Department.
Using the city surveillance cameras and license plate reader technology, investigators identified Oceanside resident Yolanda Orozco, 65, as the suspect and registered owner of the truck, according to police.

Police said Orozco admitted being the driver of the vehicle at the time of the crash and showed signs of intoxication. She was arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run, with additional DUI-related charges pending the outcome of the investigation.
The man suffered fatal injuries, but it was unclear if he was pronounced dead at a hospital or at the scene. His identity has not yet been confirmed, according to police.
