Sandia Fire 90% Contained In San Diego's North County

FALLBROOK, CA — A wildfire that prompted evacuation warnings in northern San Diego County was nearing full containment Thursday.

The Sandia Fire was 10% contained Tuesday night, and increased to 35% containment Wednesday morning, according to Cal Fire. As of Thursday morning, the Sandia Fire remained at 24 acres and was 90% contained.

"Fire crews took advantage of favorable weather conditions and made good progress throughout the day," Cal Fire said in a Thursday morning update. "Firefighters will remain on scene and into tomorrow continuing to build on containment lines and extinguish remaining hot spots."

The blaze sparked at 3:20 p.m. Tuesday off Sandia Creek Road in De Luz, north of Fallbrook and just south of the Riverside County line, according to Cal Fire. The forward rate of spread was stopped by 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Authorities issued evacuation warnings in the area, which were lifted Tuesday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

There were 72 personnel assigned to the fire Thursday, including 10 engines, four hand crews and four other resources.

The fire caused no reported structural damage or injuries.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
