SANTA ANA, CA — A 19-year-old man was behind bars Monday in connection with a high-speed collision that killed a pedestrian in Santa Ana.
Bryan Lemus of Santa Ana was booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter following the crash that occurred about 10:05 p.m. Sunday on Bristol Street near Myrtle Street, said Santa Ana police Cpl. Anthony Bertagna.
Lemus was driving a southbound Chevrolet Camaro that slammed into the as-yet unidentified victim, who was walking across Bristol at Myrtle, the corporal said.

A witness told police the Camaro was in a street race with another vehicle, but investigators are not yet certain whether that was the case, Bertagna said. Police believe, however, that Lemus, who remained at the scene, was driving at a high rate of speed, he said.
Anyone who has information helpful to investigators was asked to call police at 714-245-8216 or 714-245-8200.
