38-Year-Old Man Dies While In Custody: Orange County Sheriff's

The man was pronounced dead after being found unresponsive in his cell, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

SANTA ANA, CA — Authorities are investigating the death of a 38-year-old Orange man who died in jail Friday, the Orange County Sheriff's Department said.

Ronald Garcia Lucio Jr. was pronounced dead after being found in his jail cell Friday evening at the Intake Release Center in Santa Ana, sheriff's officials said in a statement Saturday. The Orange County District Attorney's Office will investigate his death.

Lucio was alone in his cell when he died, and his death didn't appear suspicious, the sheriff's department said. A toxicology report and autopsy will determine the final cause of death.

Lucio had been held in jail since April 2, 2021, when he was arrested by the Anaheim Police Department in connection to an assault with a deadly weapon and shooting at an inhabited dwelling.
