5 Freeway HOV Lanes May Switch To Express Lanes: What To Know

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — Interstate 5 Freeway commuters must prepare for a potential change: Caltrans is putting together plans for how almost 16 miles of HOV lanes on the freeway could be converted into tolled express lanes, The Orange County Register reported.

Caltrans, which manages the state's freeways, reported that HOV lanes are not offering the faster travel times that they were created for — which is why tolled express lanes are being looked at.

The converted lanes would impact Red Hill Avenue in Tustin to the county line, the report said.
