Officers reportedly heard a gunshot, the Orange County Register reported.
Officers attempted to talk to the man to de-escalate the situation, Carringer told the news agency. The man refused and remained inside his house, he said.
The standoff continued for several more hours into the following morning. The Anaheim police SWAT team eventually arrived and made another attempt to talk to the man, according to Carringer.
Around 3:50 a.m., the man went to the front door of the house, and police fired at him, Carringer said.
