Here are the top stories today in Orange County:

  1. Which OC cities had the most rainfall Monday? According to Orange County Public Works website, the average rainfall in Orange County was 0.24 inches, while "South Orange County cities and canyons" had the most rainfall.
    • Laguna Beach at Woodland received 0.63 inches of rain.
    • Dana Point Ocean Institute received 0.51 inches of rain.
    • Upper Harding Canyon received 0.59 inches of rain.
    • Lower Oso Creek received 0.51 inches of rain.

  2. Avoid identity theft during Orange County Identity Theft Awareness Week! Chairman Donald P. Wagner and Treasurer Shari Freidenrich kicked off the week from Jan. 30 through Feb. 3. They are urging OC residents to take steps to protect their personal information and find out how fraudsters operate to lessen the chances of becoming a victim. 3. CMBS owes $30 billion in commercial loan debt that is due this year for almost 400 commercial properties in Orange and Los Angeles counties. The mountain of debt coming due dwarfs $10 billion of CMBS debt due last year, according to data from DBRS Morningstar. Higher interest rates are increasing pressure to lower asset prices, and "skyrocketing refinancing costs" will limit debt refinancing and extending loan deadlines. Of the $30 billion due in 2023, "only about $3.5 billion" has been paid back. (The Real Deal)
  4. The OC Sheriff's Department is keeping our streets and communities drug-free. The North Patrol Special Enforcement Team made a traffic stop in the area of Brookhurst and Broadway in Anaheim last week and arrested a driver who was on probation. Deputies searched the driver's vehicle and found fentanyl, half a pound of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, including scales and plastic baggies. The driver was arrested on felony charges. Thank you, OCSD. (Orange County Sheriff's Department, CA via Facebook)
