ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A Costa Mesa couple barely made it out of Ukraine with their newborn daughter and the clothes on the backs amid Russia's invasion of the country, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Jessie and Jacob Boeckmann arrived in Kyiv, Ukraine's capital, on Feb. 13, a day before the expected birth of their daughter through a surrogate mother. The couple's first daughter was born through a Ukrainian surrogate, and the Boeckmanns decided on Ukraine again for their second, the Times reported.

The couple's daughter, Vivian, was born Feb. 22 — later than expected and amid increasing hostilities between Ukraine and Russia, the paper reported.
