  1. Lifeguard hopefuls raced across the beach into the chilly water at the Huntington Beach Pier on Saturday. Huntington Beach started recruiting lifeguards early this year because of recent hiring challenges. Watching over crowds of beachgoers can be challenging, but Huntington Beach Marine Safety Capt. Derek Peters said, “I think [being a lifeguard] gives most of our team a sense of purpose, and making a difference in the community is not a bad way to make a living.” (MSN)
  2. Police are looking for clues about the death of a man found unresponsive in the middle of an Anaheim street. Paramedics rushed a 31-year-old man identified as Rolando Delgadillo Gutierrez, 31, to a hospital where he died. Any witnesses who may have information are asked to call the Anaheim Police Department. (Orange County Register via Facebook)
  3. Tragically, a car smashed into a tree in San Juan Capistrano Sunday night, killing two men and sending a third man to Mission Hospital in critical condition, the Orange County Register reported. The crash was just after 10 p.m. in the area of Rancho Viejo and Malaspina Roads. Two men in the front seat, driver Riley Hans Sullivan, 21, of Creston and 19-year-old Rez Aziz Devenny of San Juan Capistrano, were pronounced dead at the scene, the report said. The cause of the accident is under investigation. (Patch)
