Man Sentenced For Attempted Murder In Anaheim Gang-Related Shooting

An 18-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday and was sentenced to five years in prison for a gang-related shooting and attempted robbery.

ANAHEIM, CA — An 18-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday and was immediately sentenced to five years in prison for a gang-related shooting and attempted robbery in Anaheim.

Michael Duprez pleaded guilty to attempted murder, attempted robbery and participating in gang activity and admitted sentencing enhancements for the personal use of a firearm, discharge of a firearm, discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury, gang activity, and inflicting great bodily injury.

Co-defendant Bruce Lee Aguilar, 27, is awaiting trial and is next due in court Aug. 10.

They were charged in connection with the shooting of a man in his 50s about 11 p.m. Jan. 19 at Brookhurst Street and La Palma Avenue, according to Anaheim Police Department Sgt. Shane Carringer.

The defendants were acquainted with the victim, whose name was not released. The victim sustained a gunshot wound that was not considered life- threatening, Carringer said.

Aguilar was charged with attempted robbery, participating in gang activity and being an accessory after the fact, all felonies, with a sentencing enhancement for gang activity.
