Northbound 405 Freeway Brought To A Standstill Near John Wayne Airport
A multi-car crash backed up traffic on a portion of the 405 Freeway near John Wayne Airport Thursday afternoon.

SANTA ANA, CA — Traffic on a portion of the northbound 405 Freeway slowed to a crawl from Irvine to Santa Ana on Thursday when a multi-car crash closed several lanes of traffic.
A Sigalert was issued for a portion of the freeway with traffic reduced to a single lane between MacArthur Boulevard in Santa Ana down to Jeffrey Road and University Drive in Irvine. Caltrans personnel were still working as of 3:30 p.m. to clean up the crash wreckage and reopen the freeway.
A big rig truck crashed into the left shoulder wall of the 405 Freeway around 2:14 p.m., the California Highway Patrol said. The crash set off a chain reaction that led to an SUV crashing into a work truck.

Debris scattered across the northbound 405 Freeway, and the wreckage blocked the leftmost lanes, the CHP said.
