OC Man Accused Of Stealing Retirement Funds From Boeing Workers

ORANGE COUNTY, CA — A Santa Ana man was indicted Tuesday for an identity theft scheme to steal money from Boeing employees' retirement funds.

Hoa Vo, 30, was indicted on three counts of bank fraud and a count of aggravated identity theft.

Vo is accused of stealing the identities of Boeing employees and using the information to steal money from their retirement accounts from January through June 2019, federal prosecutors alleged.

Vo allegedly used a complicated scheme that involved stealing mail, using phony driver's licenses and crafting a note that purported to authorize him to pick up the victim's mail, prosecutors alleged.

Vo then took stolen checks and deposited them in a bank account fraudulently opened in the name of the Boeing employee, prosecutors alleged. He is also accused of forging the signatures of victims to cash checks written to himself, prosecutors alleged.

Vo is accused of trying to steal $783,328 from the Voluntary Investment Plan retirement accounts, and making off with $360,847, prosecutors said.

Vo could face up to 93 years in prison if convicted at trial.

Huntington Beach, Irvine and Westminster police departments assisted in the investigation.
