Pedestrian Killed In Dana Point; Alleged Driver Arrested

DANA POINT, CA — A 57-year-old Laguna Niguel man has been arrested for alleged hit-and-run and DUI in the death of a 71-year-old pedestrian in Dana Point, authorities said Saturday.

Deputies from the Orange County Sheriff's Department responded to a report of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Pacific Coast Highway and Dana Point Harbor Drive at about noon Friday.

They found Barry William Tutt of La Verne severely injured. Tutt was rushed to a local area hospital, where he later died.

"Based on a preliminary investigation, the driver of a silver Ford sedan struck Tutt and then left the scene," the OCSD said. "With the help of witnesses, deputies were able to locate the driver of the Ford. The suspect, Humberto Munoz Gatica, 57, of Laguna Niguel, was arrested and booked at the Orange County Jail for charges related to the hit-and-run and suspicion of driving under the influence."
