2 Dead, 18 Injured When Plane Crashes Into OC Commercial Building

Firefighters are evacuating a commercial building that caught fire after a plane crashed into it.

FULLERTON, CA — A small plane crashed into a large commercial building near the Fullerton Municipal Airport, triggering a fire, killing two people and injuring 18 others Thursday.

According to the Fullerton Fire Department, evacuations were underway at a building in the 23000 block of Raymer Avenue.

The crash was reported at about 2:10 p.m. The plane, a single-engine Van's RV-10, had taken off from Fullerton and was returning to land when the crash occured. Video footage shared on social media showed black smoke billowing from a large warehouse next to the airport as fire trucks rushed to the scene. Paramedics were seen treating numerous patients.

Eighteen people were injured with ten taken to area hospitals and the rest treated on scene, said Kristy Wells of the Fullerton Police Department. The injuries were not considered life-threatening.

It was not clear if the fatalities included the plane's pilot, Wells said.

It was unclear if any more people were in the building, but it appears everyone was able to get out, Wells said.

The Federal Aviation Administration reported it was a single-engine Van's RV-10 that crashed. The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the crash with the FAA.

Residents and commuters are advised to avoid the area.
