U.S. Open of Surfing Will Have Skateboarding, BMX: Report
The U.S. Open of Surfing will splash back into Huntington Beach this summer with the addition of some land-based sports.
HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA — When the U.S. Open of Surfing returns to Huntington Beach this summer, it will have more than just people trying to catch waves.
The Orange County Register reports that skateboarding and BMX will be a part of the annual competition, courtesy of the Costa Mesa-based shoe company Vans, which is sponsoring the event.
The "Vans Showdown" will feature skateboarding on a course built on the sand and BMX riding, the Register reported.

The U.S. Open of Surfing will be from July 30 to August 7.
