📰 News we're reading

1. Salmon Spawning Operations (gridleyherald.com) — Oroville’s Feather River Fish Hatchery has successfully wrapped up this year’s Chinook salmon spawning, collecting enough eggs to exceed its usual production goals. To help counter declining Central Valley salmon numbers, the hatchery will boost releases of spring- and fall-run fish into the Feather River and San Francisco Bay, supported by continued vitamin B1 treatments to improve survival.

2. Oroville council talks transparency standards (chicoer.com) — Oroville’s City Council is moving toward a new transparency ordinance that would curb solo contract negotiations, protect staff who refuse improper directives, and allow anonymous reporting of concerns. Members sparred over past Gateway Project investigations but agreed on clearer rules, while also extending Northwest Lineman College’s land lease and recognizing local civic and school efforts.

3. Two teens apprehended for a series of robberies targeting local businesses in Oroville (krcrtv.com) — Oroville Police say two teenagers have been arrested in connection with several recent robberies targeting local businesses, involving stolen cash registers and merchandise. Investigators used prior case information, witness statements, surveillance footage, and other evidence to identify the suspects, and are asking anyone with additional details to contact the department.

4. CalAssist Mortgage Fund provides up to $20k of support for disaster-stricken homeowners (krcrtv.com) — Homeowners in Oroville and across Butte County hit by the Thompson and Park fires can now apply for up to $20,000 in no-repayment mortgage help through the CalAssist Mortgage Fund. The program can cover up to three months of payments for homes destroyed or left uninhabitable, with a simple, free application and referrals to housing counselors if residents don’t qualify.
