500 Guns Recovered From Palisades Fire Debris — Now LAPD Wants To Return Them
Police are trying to match hundreds of charred guns with their rightful owners after the Palisades Fire.

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — Authorities have recovered some 500 guns from the debris the Palisades Fire. Now, they're looking to reunite the firearms — many of them badly damaged — to their rightful owners.
The Los Angeles Police Department worked with cleanup teams to locate the guns in the debris. Many of them "have sustained severe fire damage, rendering them difficult to identify. Despite the condition of these recovered weapons, the department remains committed to ensuring that these items are properly processed, identified, and, when appropriate, returned to their rightful owners," the LAPD said in a release.
Those who would like to being the process of attempting to recover their firearms can email the LAPD Gun Recovery Unit can be contacted at palisadesfire@lapd.online. Residents should provide identifying information such as proof of residential address, and a description of their firearm, police said.

"We recognize that these firearms may hold significant sentimental value to their owners, whether as family heirlooms, historical pieces, or personal mementos, and we are doing our best to reunite them with their owners," LAPD Chief of Detectives Alan Hamilton said.
