Back-To-Back Storms Incoming: How To Get Sandbags In Pacific Palisades

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — After a short period dry weather in Southern California, upcoming back-to-back rain storms are expected to drench the Palisades and bring heavy flooding, the National Weather Service said.

The first, weaker storm, will move in as early as Saturday and linger through Tuesday in Southern California, according to forecasters. Given the record-breaking storms earlier this month that saturated the ground and wreaked havoc on the region, authorities will be on alert for the risk of new mudslides.

The heaviest rainfall during the first storm is predicted to hit the Southland on Sunday or Monday, NWS spokesperson Mike Wofford said. Los Angeles County is expected to get about 2-5 inches of rain during this storm.

A much stronger storm coming from the eastern Pacific will follow on the heels of the first, slamming the Southland mid-to-late next week, National Weather Service meteorologist Elizabeth Adams said. The second storm is packing much more moisture, Adams said, moving into atmospheric river territory.

Sandbags, which can be used to divert water in flood-prone properties, are available to Pacific Palisades residents at all Los Angeles Fire Department stations.

Sand is available at the Fire Station 23 in the Palisades, 17281 Sunset Boulevard.
