Palisades Fire Map: See Fire Perimeter, Evacuation Areas

PACIFIC PALISADES, CA — The Santa Ana wind-driven Palisades Fire broke out Tuesday morning and exploded to more than 11,800 acres Wednesday, destroying more than 1,000 homes and threatening thousands more in Pacific Palisades, Malibu, Topanga Canyon and Calabasas.

Tens of thousands of people were forced to flee for their lives, sometimes abandoning their vehicles in traffic to get to safety.

Fire officials and Gov. Gavin Newsom implored residents to heed evacuation warnings.

As of 1 p.m. Wednesday several communities were under mandatory evacuation orders, and several more are in evacuation warning zones, meaning they should be prepared to leave on a moment's notice.

Evacuation Orders:

A mandatory evacuation order was issued for a wide swath of the Palisades area, covering more than 30,000 people, an analysis of U.S. Census data shows.

An evacuation center was established at the Westwood Recreation Center, 1350 S. Sepulveda Blvd., while large animals can be taken to Pierce College at 6201 Winnetka Ave., or the Los Angeles Equestrian Center at 480 Riverside Drive in Burbank. Small animals can be taken to the Agoura Animal Care Center, 29525 Agoura Road, Agoura Hills.

Shelter in Place:

People outside of the evacuation area were asked to shelter in place.
