Officials have not said what caused the water main break and subsequent sinkhole.

The incident came as the first rain had begun to fall in what forecasters are expecting to the Southland's biggest storm of the season so far. The storm, which is expected to peak Thursday, is likely to cause landslides in recent burn areas, according to the National Weather Service.
