Hollywood Stars Awarded At Palm Springs Film Festival

The Palm Springs International Film Festival continued Sunday after a star-studded Film Awards ceremony honoring top actors and filmmakers.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — The 37th Palm Springs International Film Festival continued Sunday in Palm Springs, one day after the Film Awards were handed out at a star-studded ceremony at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

The festival kicked off on Friday, and on Saturday the following honorees were awarded:

-- Rose Byrne (Breakthrough Performance Award) presented by Meghann Fahy;

-- Timothée Chalamet (Spotlight Award) presented by Josh Safdie;

-- Miley Cyrus (Outstanding Artistic Achievement Award) presented by Jack Champion;

-- Leonardo DiCaprio (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actor) presented by Chase Infiniti and Teyana Taylor;

-- Ethan Hawke (Career Achievement Award) presented by Mahershala Ali;

-- Kate Hudson (Icon Award, Actress) presented by Rob Marshall;

-- Michael B. Jordan (Icon Award, Actor) presented by Colman Domingo;

-- Adam Sandler (Chairman's Award) presented by Laura Dern;

-- Amanda Seyfried (Desert Palm Achievement Award, Actress) presented by Ethan Hawke;

-- "Frankenstein" (Visionary Award) director Guillermo del Toro and actors Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi and Mia Goth presented by Paul Feig;

-- "Hamnet" (Vanguard Award) presented to director Chloé Zhao and actors Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal presented by Jane Fonda;

-- "Sentimental Value" (International Star Award) presented to cast members Renate Reinsve, Stellan Skarsgard, Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas, and Elle Fanning presented by Joachim Trier.

DiCaprio's appearance was scheduled to be the grand finale of the Film Awards, but he was unable to attend due to airport travel restrictions in the Caribbean, where he was vacationing, and accepted his award remotely.

On Sunday morning, Variety's 10 Directors to Watch and Creative Impact Awards took place as part of the PSIFF at the Parker Palm Springs. Directors honored by Variety included:

-- Guillermo del Toro (Creative Impact in Directing Award, presented by Oscar Isaac);

-- Dwayne Johnson (Creative Impact in Acting Award, presented by Colman Domingo);

-- Teyana Taylor (Creative Impact in Breakthrough Performance Award, presented by Chase Infiniti).

The festival itself continues until through Jan. 12, featuring 169 films from 72 countries, with screenings scheduled at multiple venues, including the Plaza Theatre, Camelot Theatre, Festival Theatre and the Mary Pickford Theatre in Cathedral City.

Juried awards in seven competitive categories will be announced Jan. 11.
