Aaron Persky, Judge In Brock Turner Rape Case, Recalled

Aaron Persky is the first judge to be recalled in California in over 80 years.

Voters in Santa Clara County have chosen to recall Superior Court Judge Aaron Persky from the bench. Persky, the judge in the case of convicted Stanford rapist Brock Turner, came under fire for handing down a lenient six-month sentence to Turner in June 2016.

It's the first time a judge was recalled in California since 1932, according to CNN. Turner was convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman in March 2016. At his sentencing, Turner's victim read an emotional letter in front of him recounting the sexual assault.

In the letter, the woman recalled going to a campus party with her younger sister and the next thing she remembered was waking up in a hospital hallway. The case gained national attention because of the letter and the light sentence Turner received. He could have spent 14 years in prison for his conviction. Turner was convicted on three felony counts: rape of an unconscious person, digital penetration with an unconscious person and assault with the intent to commit rape.
