Fry's Electronics To Close In Palo Alto
The store situated where a cannery once stood lost its lease for the property owner's other plans, according to the chain store spokesman.

PALO ALTO, CA — Palo Alto residents who love their electronics will have to drive a little farther south to get their "best buys" from Fry's.
The home entertainment chain store lost its lease on Portage Avenue and will be closing up shop on Jan. 31, 2020. The location that once served as a cannery in the early 1900s has operated since 1990. Now apparently, the property owner has other plans, according to chain store spokesman Manuel Valerio.
"We would've been happen to be continuing with our lease in Palo Alto. The people have been good to us, and our customers I'm sure will miss us too," Valerio told Patch.

After the first of the year when the store closes, Peninsula customers may frequent the closest location in Sunnyvale at 1077 E. Arques Ave. This location has about 40,000 more square feet to hold inventory. Other San Francisco Bay Area stores in the chain's 34 locations include Campbell, San Jose, Concord and Fremont.
It's unclear what will happen with the structure built in 1918, as the land holder, Sobrato Organization as well as city staff with Palo Alto did not respond to Patch as of press time.
