Palo Alto affordable housing project begins to welcome tenants (sanjosespotlight.com) — A new affordable housing complex on East Charleston Road in Palo Alto is now welcoming tenants, with all 50 units expected to be filled this month. Half the apartments are reserved for adults with developmental disabilities, with on-site services from AbilityPath and support from the city and county. The below-market-rate units target households earning up to 60% of area median income.
   

2. Crosswalk signals were hacked because of a weak password (padailypost.com) — Hackers took over talking crosswalk signals on El Camino and University Avenue in Palo Alto and nearby cities after Caltrans failed to change default passwords. The prank replaced standard audio with AI voices mimicking Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, including jokes about national politics. Caltrans has since changed passwords and restored normal audio to prevent repeat incidents.
   

3. Notre Dame opens ACC play with 47-40 win at Stanford (wsbt.com) — Stanford fans in Palo Alto saw Notre Dame open ACC play with a 47–40 road win at Maples Pavilion, powered by freshman Jalen Haralson’s 13 points. The Irish used stifling defense and a 12–0 second-half run to build a 16-point cushion, then held off Stanford’s offense down the stretch. Notre Dame now continues its West Coast swing at Cal.

Tech billionaires threaten to exit California over proposed wealth tax (ktvu.com) — From Palo Alto, tech leaders are warning they may leave California if voters approve a proposed 5% one-time wealth tax on billionaires’ assets. Figures like Larry Page and Peter Thiel say the measure could reshape Silicon Valley’s innovation landscape, while Gov. Gavin Newsom opposes the proposal but urges against panic. Palo Alto residents could feel ripple effects if major employers or investors relocate.
