The annual fundraiser drew thousands on Sunday and is within striking distance of meeting its goal.

PALO ALTO, CA — This year's Summer Scamper 5K and fun run drew more than 2,500 participants to Stanford's Palo Alto campus on Sunday, raising more than $650,000 to support the Lucile Packard Children's Hospital.
The annual event kicked off with the walk and run, including events tailored for children and people in wheelchairs, and continued with a family festival with live music, food and exhibitions. Stanford football players answered the call for the dunk tank.
According to organizers, Summer Scamper successfully raised a little over $650,000 of its $675,000 goal by Sunday, and donations will remain open online for the next few days.
